Who am I?
Hi there! My name is Dakota. I was born February 5th, 2000 (I am 20 years old), and I am from the heart of Illinois. Growing up in a small town, I never really was exposed to a whole lot of different things because... There simply wasn't a lot around me to be exposed to. The day that my sister came home from art class and taught me how to draw a little square house with a triangle roof was all it took to get me obsessed with art and drawing, which took my life in an entirely different direction.

My Introduction to AnimeI have been drawing since my Kindergarten year in 2005. Yeah I could draw little houses but there really wasn't a lot to my art style so I couldn't really create anything except little houses and trees and whatnot. My sixth grade year in between 2013 and 2014, I started to become friends with a girl named Darynne. Now Darynne was like me, she could draw houses and whatnot, but not only was her stuff a lot better than mine at the time, and she also drew "Anime".

Darynne sat down with me and she taught me how to draw these characters and slowly but surely I began to draw more of anime instead of what I usually had been drawing. Darynne was in a little clique at school that consisted of a bunch of anime-loving people. These people were Cheiley (Pronounced Kylee), Connor, Marlena, Makenna, and Kaylee. Cheiley and Marlena drew as well and Connor was more of an anime enthusiast. These guys turned out to be some of my greatest friends and throughout middle school we talked about anime, drawing, our favorite shows, and our interests.

High School Disaster High school was particularly hard for me. Not only did my only social circle basically slowly exclude me out of their clique because old friends eventually grow apart, this was also around the time that my dad had a lot of complications from his Gastric Bypass surgery. He dropped too much weight, couldn't hold any food down, and was knocking on deaths door by the time I was through with Freshmen Orientation. My grades plummeted, I fell into a depression, and it felt like the world was slowly coming to a halt. It was around this time that I started searching up "Fan Anime" because I wanted to find some way to convey these emotions that I had been feeling, and I discovered something called "Magical Girl School" on YouTube. I started watching it, and discovered that this was something called "Fanime", and that it was an actual thing in the world. Sch Ribbit (The creator of Magical Girl School) definitely started what soon became a mad obsession, and what soon became my first 'fanime', "Yoso! Academy!"
I loaded up my MS Paint, and my Windows Movie Maker, and I began making the shittiest fanime possible. Yoso! Academy! never had a single episode released but I hyped it up so much on DeviantArt. My friend, who goes by Kami on DeviantArt, told me about a group on Skype specifically for fanimators, it was called "Fanime Rehab." After adding Kami on Skype, they invited me into this group where well-known animators like Cassiroll, Sch Ribbit, ChibiGissy, FrostedEclair (Their YouTube handles), and a load of other animators as well, all talked and shared ideas and boosted each other's confidence and encouraged each other to succeed. However, there was no amount of encouraging or confidence-boosts that could improve my art. I needed to get something out and to do that, I needed to really work on my art and strive to succeed so that I could be on the level with these guys and really push myself. That was my 2015. |

What am I currently working on?After working on my art for three years, and Yoso! Academy! undergoing three name changes, I am now working on a fanime called Lux: Light of Day, which is kind of like a glow-up of Yoso! Academy! with a better plot, better characters (Though some of the same characters are still in there!), and a lot of planning. The series is set to come out sometime in 2020, with the Prologue being released either New Years Day or a little bit after. Although most of it is planned out, it's still in the planning stages.
Another thing I am working on is We, the Saints, which is currently in a HEAVY work-in-progress. Updates will be posted soon! I guess that's really all to know about me and my story. |
